This is a minefield isn't it. The band I'm managing 'The Carousel' are slowly moving up the ladder but before we go too far I'm trying to make sure the name is ok. I can't find another successful act with that name and nor can I find anyone registered as 'The Carousel' although there are serveral 'Carousels' registered.
But the ISA tell me that registration doesn't really count for anything anyway.
I'm sure several of you have been here before, I'm new to band management so would appreciate some tips before we get our fingers burned or go too far promoting a name we can't have!
How should I proceed?

If you can, Trademark the name you want to use. Trademark is the most reliable proof of ownership of a name. There are various 'band name registry' websites. But in case of a legal dispute, proof of a trademark ownership will solve any issues.
